We are a few years into the “nickel age of superconductivity” now. In this presentation I will review what we know so far and what open questions remain to be answered. I will cover both square-planar nickelates and octahedral nickelates and compare to what we have learned over the last few decades from cuprates. I will also touch on the aspects that prevented superconductivity being observed in nickelates until now, and what holds us back from discovering more superconductors in general.
